The truck is exceptionally clean but you could still perform a little more detailing on the lower crank case portion of the motor.  The oil pan has been removed and cleaned out and properly re-gasketed.  The lower motor crank case has been inspected and it is sound.  A new Rear Main Seal has been installed.  The truck has a fresh oil change (10 Quarts) and new anti-freeze (12 Gallon capacity @ 50% = +10 degrees) installed.  The motor has Excellent Oil Pressure with very few & very minor oil drips (no serious leaks.

The truck has its Original “Seagrave” Cloisonné type radiator shroud badge.  It has its original large, solid brass “Seagrave” radiator cap and a new “Standard” size Boyce Moto Meter.

The truck’s 750 g.p.m. fire pump is clean and complete.  It still its original removable, solid brass internal intake strainers and the correct “operator’s” dual compound pump gauges (-30/150 GPM Vacuum and -30/400 GPM Pressure).   It is Totally (un-messed with!)

The fire pump has Three 5” Suction Intakes (Le, Ri & Re).   All suction caps (3), their 2 ½” discharge drain cock handles, their caps and the Original “Seagrave” brand 12” fire bell has been re-chromed.  The truck has a large “Sireno” brand electric siren (with internal electric siren brake) mounted and wired on the left rear running board.  It SCREAMS!  It has a new, very loud 12 V Klaxon type electric horn and YES, IT GOES AHHOOOGA! The way it’s supposed to!

The truck has both of its original (5” Dia., 10’ Length) hard suction draft tubes (with attachable, submersible draft strainer) & one complete lash-up of 5” to 2 ½” soft suction compatible pump intake reducers.

The truck has the original and correct 11” (Brown Electric brand, barrel type) head lights (re-chromed) and a matching searchlight mounted on the cowling.

The truck has Two new 40 x 8 (10:00 x 24) GOODRICH brand front tires, with new brass stem tubes and new re-liners (flaps) installed on the front axle.

The truck has a new 12 Volt, Heavy Duty (1350 Ampere) Battery installed and also comes with a new float charger to aid in preventing overcharging.

A correct & complete reprinted 1926 Seagrave “Model S” operator’s manual is included.  It addresses and includes pump nomenclature & general pumping information, motor and truck parts nomenclature and tuning specifications, electrical parts information, etc.

The truck has its original rear axle drive tires which are sound for short range rolling usage but they will need upgrading for extensive highway use dependability.

Every light on the truck from its headlights and searchlight to every maintenance and emergency light works fine and everything is properly switched (35 Amp) and fused (30 Amp).

Some exhaust smoke and gas fumes are evident and this is normal in all of these old truck motors which have extremely large volume updraft carburetion but it is nothing unusual.  The rear section of the original three piece aluminum exhaust manifold has one short surface crack that may eventually need 1” or 2” of Heli-Arcing (but it doesn’t need it now and the manifold will not have to be removed from the truck if you ever decide to do so).

The truck needs the 4’ exhaust down pipe replaced.  There is no muffler.  The truck didn’t come from the factory with one.  However it does still have its original very large and very heavy solid aluminum down-blast tail pipe extension tip mounted in place.

The steering column hub quadrant & spark/gas controls are all original.  The steering wheel’s hub and spider is original (Nickel plate over solid brass).  The steering wheel ring is not original but it looks very nice and it functions perfectly.

The truck’s metal encased odometer cable is detached but is included.

Both of the original & correct factory “Delco” electrical on-off switches on the truck’s dashboard have been properly upgraded with new and correct 35 Amp pull/push switches for safety and reliability but the original switches are still good and are included.

A rear tailboard hand grab rail bar and four new dual facing hose bed top rear warning lights (Red, Blue & Green) on new signal mounting brackets have been installed.  There are two new Unity brand 6” emergency search lights also installed on the same brackets.  One has diffused lighting and the other has beam lighting the way they are supposed to be.

Truck Size Specifications:   22’ Length, 6 ½’ Width, 6 1/2’ Height, Rolling weight is approximately 3 Tons +/-.

A new 28 foot ladder, a different Seagrave search light and a different radiator cap/motor meter will be delivered with the truck. Truck will be delivered with 400 feet of hose and two helmets.

The Seagrave Company was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1881 by Fredric Seagrave. In 1891, the company moved to Columbus, Ohio and remained there until 1963. It was then acquired by the FWD Corporation. This series of events has led the company to be the oldest continuous producer of fire trucks in the United States. As one would expect, this fire engine is completed in red with brass work adorning many parts of the vehicle. The brass grill shell shines brightly, and is topped off with a Motometer. The truck is fitted with a ladder, extinguisher, cowl mounted spotlight and a black button tufted interior. Powering the truck is a Plymouth straight six-cylinder engine, an upgrade from the Continental engine that is presumed to have been fitted originally.

1966 Seagrave - Inquire - Scottsdale, AZ - FROM THE MISSOULA AUTO MUSEUM COLLECTION: Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder January 19th - 22nd, 2017 at Russo and Steele's 17th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Please contact us for more information.Founded by Fredric Seagrave during 1881 in Detroit, Michigan, Seagrave remains famous today as the oldest continuous manufacturer of fire-fighting trucks in the United States. In 1891, Seagrave moved to Columbus, Ohio and remained there until 1963, when FWD acquired it. That company was founded in 1909 by partners Otto Zachow and William Besserdich in Clintonville, Wisconsin. Its operations focused on the development of severe-duty truck chassis and it produced the first all-wheel drive chassis in the United States. Following the buyout by FWD, Seagrave moved its entire operations to Clintonville, Wisconsin, and it continues to lead the fire-apparatus industry with a multitude of pumpers, rescue units, aerial trucks, fire equipment, and other products. This highly engaging 1966 Seagrave Model 0-4104 Fire Truck is an interesting find. Its manufacture was completed on 02/09/66 and it was delivered new that year to Garden Grove City Township in California and originally numbered Garden Grove Unit #1. Subsequently, a county-wide renumbering designated the Seagrave as Unit H 838. It was refurbished while still in service during July 1984 and eventually retired in 1992. Distinctively finished in two-tone bright yellow and bright red transverse livery, the Seagrave is offered with 20,356 indicated miles at the time of cataloguing. The interior was updated to accommodate passengers with the seats upholstered in vinyl, including the rear- facing jump seats and front compartment. Mechanicals were also updated with the original V-12 engine replaced by a new 6D92 Silver Crown Diesel engine mated to a 6-speed Spicer SST6 manual transmission. The electrical system was also partially updated to accommodate current use. The Seagrave retains all standard and optional service items and apparatus, including internal and external instrumentation, ladders, axes, fire extinguishers, bells, spotlights, sirens, hoses, a high-pressure extendable sprayer, and other miscellaneous items. The truck does retain its high-capacity 1,250 gpm water pump; however, this item does need repairs. Aftermarket items include a CB radio, stereo, and PA system. Bearing a California Historical license plate and delivering incredible appeal with its unique body styling and full fire apparatus, this 1966 Seagrave fire truck is sure to draw admiration and crowds of excited onlookers wherever it appears.
